Site Surveying

We offer a complete Site Surveying and Advisory service using fully qualified and trained personnel. Wherever your site or development is situated our surveys will deem them safe by using the latest in Cable Avoidance Technology (CAT & Genneys) and the Mala Underground Radar System to produce scans of sub-surface amenities (pipes, cables and drains). We can also provide written plans and line drawings to help you decide which size and species of tree is best suited to your needs and the location.

Tree Selection

This is your opportunity to improve your environment and make a difference. Whilst we can advise on scheme and species suitability, the types and sizes of trees you choose are limited by your imagination alone. Gristwood & Toms have long-standing relationships with the country’s premier quality tree suppliers and nurseries and will personally inspect and select all trees before purchase.

Tree Planting

All tree specimens are different in their needs and require different methods of planting to ensure a healthy life. Whether bare root, air-pot, containerised, root ball, deep or shallow pit, staking or ground anchoring, we have the teams, the knowledge, the equipment and the experience to provide perfect planting.

Tree Base Design

Trees should look good from top to bottom! As a part of our planting service we will dress the area around the tree base to your requirements to give an aesthetically pleasing finish. For urban spaces, the Arboresin range of surface finishes are excellent. This provides an attractive, hardwearing resin surface around the tree pit that is load bearing and porous, allowing rainwater to filter through to the roots, to minimize run-off. Arboresin is available in different colours and is ideal for pedestrian areas such as shopping precincts and car parks as it seals in stone, pebble or shingle to provide a tidier, cleaner environment.

Maintenance Plans

Trees, like all plants, will thrive if they are properly cared for. We are immensely proud of our success rate: of over 12,000 street trees planted for local authorities since 2006 we have a success rate of 96%. This has been achieved as a result of our unique maintenance programme which includes regular checks, watering, pruning and tree-base care. We offer a variety of tree maintenance packages to suit all budgets and requirements. Our Maintenance Plans are flexible; they can apply to just the trees planted by us or to care for entire, existing tree stocks.

Not all newly planted trees will succeed. Irrespective of the reasons for a young tree’s failure, Gristwood & Toms offer a 100% replacement guarantee for the duration of all termed contracts.
