Company Profile

Gristwood and Toms was formed as a partnership in 1974 by David Gristwood and Andrew Toms and it traded
mainly with domestic customers. When the great storm of October 1987 hit Southern England, the Company
succeeded in winning contracts in assisting local authorities with their clear up work.

When councils put out treework contracts under a new government initiative, Compulsory Competitive Tendering
(CCT) in 1988, the Company was successful in obtaining a contract with the London Borough of Richmond, this in
turn was followed by contracts with Croydon, Torbay, Basingstoke, Hertsmere, Portsmouth, Epping, Birmingham
and Southwark amongst others.

Gristwood and Toms has since been incorporated into a Limited Company and has become well known as one
of the largest and most experienced Aboricultural Company’s in Europe operating from five depots around England
with a multi million pound turnover, employing over 150 members of staff . We pride ourselves on having the
machinery and the manpower to deal with any emergencies that our customers face, due either to contractual
work or storms and tornados such as the one that hit Birmingham in July 2005.
